Kenya Country Manager, AGRA
John Macharia leads country engagement with government and key donors as well as operationalization of AGRA’s new strategy to catalyze and sustain an agricultural transformation in these countries. Mr Macharia was previously a program officer in the markets and post-harvest unit at AGRA and managed the waste and spoilage maize initiative in Tanzania that was graciously supported by the Rockefeller Foundation. Prior to joining AGRA in May 2014, Mr Macharia was a senior value chain advisor with the Netherlands Development Organization in Nairobi and also served as a business manager and senior business advisor with the East Africa Dairy Development Project in Kenya and Rwanda.
Mr. Macharia has a distinguished track record as an agricultural value chain specialist, enterprise and strategy advisor. He holds an MBA in strategic management and is currently pursuing a doctorate of philosophy in strategic management.
The 8th AGTS will look to find solutions for the missing pieces of the grain trade puzzle and attempt to come up with an action plan to deliver more and better grain trade on the continent.
