Gord Kurbis

Gord Kurbis works on behalf of Canada Grains Council (CGC) members to address market access and trade policy issues in the area of crop protection.  The CGC is Canada’s national organization representing the interests of the Canadian grain, oilseed, pulse and special crop sectors and has a membership representing the entire value chain, including Canadian growers, seed and life science companies, commodity associations, grain companies and public research institutions.  The CGC was formed in 1969 to coordinate industry efforts to maximise the sale and use of Canadian crops in domestic and world markets. Over 40 years later, it has evolved into Canada’s premiere forum for multi-stakeholder collaboration, information-sharing and consensus-based decision making on agricultural issues of national and international importance.

Gord has participated at a senior level in government/industry trade forums associated with Codex, WTO, FAO, APEC, and the International Plant Protection Convention.  He also participates in trade- and technology-focused roles at the International Grain Trade Coalition, the International Agri-Food Network, and other international industry groups.

Gord has a Master of Science in agricultural economics, a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, and has spent 23 years in the Canadian grain industry working in the areas of market access and technology, marketing, trade policy, market analysis and quality assurance.
